Ajax are interested in appointing Christopher Vivell as Director of Transfers, but he is still under contract at Chelsea after being placed on gardening leave in July.

Vivell was appointed as technical director at Stamford Bridge in December 2022 as part of the significant restructuring under chairman Todd Boehly.

He came to the Premier League after building an impressive reputation in scouting and recruitment at RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig, however, his time with the Blues did not go well.

Co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart rose to prominence and Vivell’s position quickly came into question.

In July 2023 he was placed on gardening leave and Sky Germany report that he still remains under contract with Chelsea.

There is plenty of interest from clubs to bring in his services, with Ajax specifically interested in hiring him in a Director of Transfers role, but an agreement must first be reached with the Blues.

Although less than 18 months in the past, it seems a lifetime ago that Vivell was brought in to work with then manager Graham Potter.

Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali said in a statement at the time: ‘We are delighted that Christopher is taking up this important leadership role at the club. His work in Germany and Austria speaks for itself.

‘We are confident he will continue on his impressive trajectory here at Chelsea. He will provide important support to Graham and the ownership group and play a vital part in advancing our overall vision for the club.’

Vivell also sounded extremely positive, saying: ‘Chelsea are building the most exciting project in global football and I’m extremely proud to be joining the club.

‘There is so much potential for the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow.

‘Under the new ownership, Graham Potter and the broader sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinned by performance analysis, data and innovation, and I am looking forward to playing a part in that.’
