Ange Postecoglou says Timo Werner still has improvement to make but has ‘made an impact in every game’ during his loan spell at Tottenham.

The German forward moved to Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in January and has scored two Premier League goals in nine appearances so far.

Tottenham are battling to make it into the top four, currently one place and three points behind Aston Villa in fourth, but with a game in hand on Unai Emery’s side.

Werner continues to play a big part in that challenge, starting in the win over Luton Town on Saturday and Postecoglou is pleased with what the former Chelsea man is contributing.

The Australian says a decision is still to be made on what Werner will do beyond this season, but he is encouraged by his performances and thinks there is more to come from him.

‘In terms of his future, yeah I think like most players all these decisions will be made at the appropriate time,’ Postecoglou told a press conference.

‘He’s been great for us. He was an important signing, I said at the time, people forget that when we signed him Sonny [Son Heung-min] wasn’t here, he was away at the Asian Cup and then Richy [Richarlison] got injured.

‘So we would have had a massive hole in our line-up without Timo there, and it’s fair to say he’s made an impact in every game.

‘Yeah, he’d probably like a couple more goals but at the same time he’s an important part of our structure and I thought he was really good on the weekend. He has been in the last few games but I do think there’s more improvement in him as he understands our game more.’

Werner is under contract at RB Leipzig until 2026 but Spurs have an option to buy him at the end of this season for around £15m.
