Antony rages at ‘strange’ Erik ten Hag decision in Man Utd’s FA Cup win vs Liverpool | Football

Antony remonstrated with Marcus Rashford after being told to play left-back

Antony looked far from happy after being told to play left-back during Manchester United’s win against Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Brazilian winger scored United’s late equaliser to force extra time at Old Trafford before Amad Diallo’s strike sealed the victory for Erik ten Hag’s side.

But during the half time of extra time, Antony appeared to take exception to Ten Hag’s demand to play at left-back for the remainder of the game.

After walking away from the team huddle, Antony made a mind blown gesture before he was involved in an animated exchange with Marcus Rashford.

The United forward put his arm around Antony as they walked back onto the pitch, while Christian Eriksen also had a brief word with the Brazilian winger, who joined United in an £85 million deal from Ajax in 2022.

When asked about being told to play as a left-back after United’s win over Liverpool, Antony told TNT Sports Brasil: ‘Sacrifice, sacrifice, when the coach said that, I found it a bit strange, but sacrificing for the group, sacrificing for the team, that’s fine with me.’

Antony also admits he has found it difficult with his lack of playing time at United in recent weeks.

‘A very emotional goal for me, for everything I’ve been through and am still going through,’ Antony said.

‘It’s not easy, I’m a 24-year-old boy and I’m going through all these things, with the help of my companions, my family.

‘It’s a relief, I know, the group knows how hard I’ve been working on a daily basis, even though I don’t come on much or at all.

‘I’ve been excelling a lot in training, I’m very grateful for the opportunity too. I hope it’s the first of many.’
