Michael Owen wants Liverpool to win the Premier League but expects Jurgen Klopp’s side and Arsenal to be pipped in the title race by Manchester City.

Just one point separates current leaders Arsenal, runners-up Liverpool and third-placed Manchester City with ten games remaining.

Arsenal have won all eight of their Premier League fixtures since the start of 2024 and moved to the top of the table for the first time since December after both Liverpool and Manchester City dropped points in a thrilling 1-1 draw at Anfield earlier in the month.

The Gunners are bidding to win their first league title since 2004, having sat top of the table for most of last season before eventually finishing five points behind Man City, champions of England in five of the last six campaigns.

Liverpool are the only team to break Pep Guardiola’s dominance – lifting the title in unusual circumstances during the interrupted Covid season of 2019-20.

The Reds have been in scintillating form for much of the season and are desperate to mark Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield with a second league title.

Manchester City are poised in third and have the chance to overtake Mikel Arteta’s side and dent Arsenal’s hopes when the two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium after the international break.

Owen, who started his career at Anfield, hopes Liverpool go on to clinch the title and reckons they have the ‘easiest’ run-in out of the three title rivals.

But the former England striker still thinks Manchester City will ‘go into overdrive’ when the domestic campaign resumes and continue their stranglehold over the Premier League title.

‘My heart of course says Liverpool and I do think they have the easiest run-in,’ Owen said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show. ‘It would be an incredible story, too, with it being Jurgen Klopp’s final season.

‘But I do think Man City are the best team in the world at the moment and they’ve proven that. I can see them going into overdrive, I think they’ve got gears left.

‘Whereas Arsenal and Liverpool might be playing at their absolute peak at the moment, I think we might Man City go at this part of the season. My head says Manchester City.’

While Arsenal and Man City resume their title challenges against each other, Liverpool return to action on March 31 against Brighton.
