Arsenal will seek to make major improvements to the squad in the summer transfer window, with a striker and central midfielder the key areas for investment, according to reports.

The Gunners were hamstrung by Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations in the January transfer window, which meant they were unable to bring in any reinforcements.

The club made big moves last summer, bringing in Kai Havertz and Declan Rice for a combined total of £170million and are expected to heavily invest in the squad again in the summer.

Gabriel Jesus has failed to establish himself as a consistent attacking threat, while long-term injuries for Thomas Partey and Emile Smith-Rowe have exposed Mikel Arteta’s side’s lack of depth in the middle of the park.

According to Fabrizio Romano, both positions are areas that the Gunners will look to invest heavily in ahead of next season and the club have already begun drawing up targets.

‘The expectation is for Victor Osimhen to go, this is a very clear message that we are getting,’ the Italian said on The Here We Go Podcast.

‘So the idea is for Victor Osimhen to try a new chapter, we know there has been long-term interest from Chelsea but there is interest also from Arsenal.

‘We’ve also heard about [Viktor] Gyokeres, Arsenal are monitoring different strikers. Let’s see if Osimhen will be too expensive because Arsenal want to make a very big investment in midfield.

‘Keep an eye on Arsenal this summer because in the midfield and in the striker position they want to invest important money.’

A deal for Osimhen could be difficult, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain also interested in the Nigerian’s signature.

The north London club have also been linked with Ivan Toney in their search for a reliable goalscorer, with Brentford boss Thomas Frank realistic that the Englishman will almost certainly leave in the summer.

In midfield, Arsenal are said to be long-time admirers of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi who has a €60m (£51.2m) release clause in his deal with the Spanish club.
