United suffered a scare against Newport County as they threw away a two-goal lead against the League Two club before securing a 4-2 victory to seal a place in the FA Cup fifth round.
Antony scored United’s third goal to put Erik ten Hag’s side back in front in the 68th minute but the Brazil international was subjected to obscene chants from the Newport County supporters.
The BBC Radio Wales Sport commentator unfortunately misheard what the Newport County fans were singing as he said: ‘Antony’s the greatest, is the latest chant from the…’
He was quickly interrupted by his co-commentator before correcting himself.
‘Oh no, it’s not greatest,’ the commentator said. ‘Sorry. Apologies if you understand that.’
The chant from the Newport County fans is in relation to the abuse allegations towards Antony which emerged last year.
The 23-year-old, who joined United in an £86 million deal from Ajax in August 2022, was granted a leave of absence by the Premier League club last September in the wake of the allegations made by his former partner.
Antony’s former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, alleged that she was physically attacked by Antony on multiple occasions during their time together in Manchester and in their native Brazil.
Two more women, Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana, have also made accusations of abuse against the Brazil international.
Antony has denied all allegations and has not been arrested or charged with a crime.
