Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl says the club will ‘try everything’ to extend Jadon Sancho’s stay, though believes Manchester United may want the forward back in the summer.

Sancho swapped Dortmund for United in a £73million move back in 2021 butrejoined the Bundesliga outfit on loan in January after a series of disciplinary issues saw him frozen out of Erik ten Hag’s first-team.

The 24-year-old will have been desperate to prove a point in Germany and has shown signs of returning to his scintillating best, starring in Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final first leg win over Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

Recent reports suggested Sancho could still have a future at Old Trafford, but only if Ten Hag loses his job at the end of the campaign, and the Red Devils’ newly appointed technical director is said to be keen to give the England international a second chance.

However, Sancho – who has two years left on his contract at United – has remained tight-lipped over his future and it remains to be seen where the winger will be playing his football come the start of next season, with his outstanding performance against PSG likely to have put teams across Europe on red alert.

‘His qualities don’t need to be described,’ Dortmund chief Kehl told German publication Welt when quizzed on what the future holds for Sancho.

‘He has regained his smile in the six months with us.’

Rio Ferdinand claimed Sancho’s masterclass against PSG was a big ‘plus point’ for United given it will have raised the attacker’s price tag ahead of the summer transfer window.

Kehl, though, feels there is a chance United may want to ‘bring him back’ as a result of his recent form.

‘We will try everything to keep Jadon Sancho here. But Manchester United also sees how well he is playing at the moment,’ he added.

‘Maybe they also want to sell him for profit or bring him back. We will see.’

Ten Hag hinted Sancho could be sold at the end of season after claiming the forward represents a ‘high value’ when asked about his showing against PSG.

‘He showed why Manchester United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Manchester United, which is good,’ the United head coach told reporters.

‘I’m happy for Jadon, for the performance yesterday, and we’ll see what is going to happen in the future.’
