Sancho, 23, returned to the Westfalenstadion on loan until the end of the 2023-24 season this month having been banished from the first-team by Erik ten Hag back at Old Trafford.
The winger had not played for United since late August but was introduced off the bench for his second Dortmund debut last weekend, providing an assist in the victory over Darmstadt 98.
Sancho is hoping to find his feet again in Germany after a disappointing two-and-a-half years in England having enjoyed great success with Dortmund prior to his £72million move to United where he developed into one of the best young wingers in Europe.
Sancho was brought back to the club primarily to provide reinforcements in wide areas but Sky Sports Germany report Dortmund coach Edin Terzic could also deploy the Londoner up front.
The report suggests in the coming weeks, Sancho could be moved further up the pitch to partner Youssoufa Moukoko. The 19-year-old is still to start a Bundesliga game this season but came off the bench to score his third goal of the season against Darmstadt last Saturday
Niclas Füllkrug has been Dortmund’s first-choice centre forward this season but Sky Germany suggest the 30-year-old could lose his place in the team after failing to impress during their mid-season training camp in Marbella.
It could see Sancho and Moukoko tasked with leading Dortmund’s attack in the coming weeks.
United themselves have struggled up front this season with summer signing Rasmus Hojlund their only reliable option at centre forward. Anthony Martial has again struggled for form and fitness and in circumstances similar to Sancho, has been ordered to train away from the first-team by ten Hag.
Dortmund meanwhile are in action against Cologne this weekend with Sancho hoping to secure his first starting appearance of the season.
The former Manchester City youngster managed just 76 minutes of action for United before being exiled, training away from the first-team for the next four months.
Dortmund boss Terzic says he sees no issues in Sancho’s fitness but would not confirm whether he will start this weekend.
‘He did really well this week,’ Terzic told a press conference. ‘His stats are outstanding. However, we will handle it very carefully.’
