Chelsea and Liverpool meet for the Carabao Cup final this afternoon with the first piece of domestic silverware of the season up for grabs at Wembley.

Liverpool are taking a temporary break from their Premier League title quest and will start this afternoon’s showpiece as the favourites despite missing several key players through injury.

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to add his eighth trophy as the Reds manager, with three of those wins having arrived courtesy of victories over Chelsea in finals – including the Carabao Cup in 2022.

Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, is hoping to claim his maiden trophy with Chelsea – and his very first in English football – and victory would serve as a huge boost to his reconstruction project at Stamford Bridge.

Here is your full brief ahead of today’s clash, including kick-off time, how to watch on TV and live stream in the UK and that all-important team news.

Chelsea vs Liverpool team news

Chelsea’s veteran defender Thiago Silva is in a race against time to make the final having picked up a groin injury during the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on February 12.

Benoit Badiashile and Carney Chukwuemeka have sat out recent games with injury and will likely play no part at Wembley this afternoon, whilst Marc Cucurella could return to the matchday squad having been involved in training this week

Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu remain sidelined with longer-term injuries.

Liverpool have been managing something of an injury crisis in recent weeks, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota unavailable to Jurgen Klopp at Wembley.

They join the likes of Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak and Joel Matip already in the treatment room.

Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders revealed on Friday that Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai were being assessed prior to the trip down south.
