It’s Saint George’s Day (huzzah) on Tuesday and you won’t find a prouder Englishman than yours truly – especially as it’s my birthday.

To celebrate I’ll be wearing a French designer shirt and German trainers while drinking a gallon of Irish stout, tucking into an Indian takeaway and watching American sports on the telly.

Tuesday is also the date when William Shakespeare, this country’s second greatest writer, was born and died which may be the case for all of us if those who believe in Rapture sending the world into Armageddon on April 23 are to be believed.

As a betting man, I reckon the chances are slim and the better bet is for Nicolas Jackson to score for Chelsea in the London derby with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

It was the end of the world for Blues fans as the striker spurned a hatful of chances in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City and they would have won but for some woeful finishing.

Despite some lacklustre performances in the Premier League they have still reached the final of the Carabao Cup and the last four of the FA Cup and they can qualify for Europe by finishing above the likes of Manchester United who, by the way, were almost historically awful when throwing away a three-goal lead to Coventry on Sunday.

The Gunners responded to their defeats against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich by winning a tough match at Wolves and it’s no surprise they are odds-on to restore their lead at the top of the table.

But Chelsea have lost just twice in 13 matches since a 4-2 defeat at home to Wolves at the beginning of February and both reversals were at Wembley, losing in extra-time to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and to City at the weekend.

They are well worth a flutter to win with a one-goal start at 13/8 in StarSports’ handicap market and the draw can be backed at 15/4 with William Hill and Betway. Jackson is 11/1 with bet365, Sky Bet and BoyleSports to show football’s a funny old game by opening the scoring and he’s 7/2 with Ladbrokes and Coral among others to be find the net at any time.

• Leicester can take another step towards an immediate return to the Premier League by beating Southampton at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes are 11/10 with bet365 and Stephy Mavididi is 15/8 with the same firm to score at any time.

• Barry Hawkins is 4/6 with Betfred, Ladbrokes and Coral to celebrate his 45th birthday by beating Ryan Day in the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.
