Erik ten Hag has revealed Aaron Wan-Bissaka has suffered a setback in his bid to return to action with Mason Mount still not ready to return to the Manchester United squad.
United have struggled with a string of defensive injury problems all season but those woes looked to be easing with Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire returning to action in recent weeks.
They were dealt another significant blow in the 3-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday however when Martinez was forced off injured in just his third starting appearance back in the side.
The Argentina international is expected to be sidelined for the next eight weeks with a knee injury.
Wan-Bissaka meanwhile picked up an unspecified knock ahead of the FA Cup clash against Newport County, missing the wins over Wolves and West Ham as a result.
Speaking ahead of United’s Premier League game against Aston Villa on Sunday, ten Hag revealed the right-back was back in training only to pick up another issue which has sidelined him once again.
‘Aaron Wan-Bissaka, today, was training but then he dropped out,’ ten Hag said. ‘So I don’t know, in this moment, where he is and what is the diagnosis.
‘Hopefully, he is not too bad.’
Mount meanwhile is no closer to returning to the starting XI.
Signed from Chelsea in a £60million deal last summer, the midfielder has managed just four Premier League starts and a further four appearances off the bench this season with a calf problem ensuring he has been sidelined since November.
Mount returned to training last month but will not return to the squad ahead of the trip to Aston Villa on Sunday with Tyrell Malacia also still unavailable.
The Dutchman has not played this season having undergone knee injury in the summer.
United have won their last three games on the bounce, taking on a Villa side who were well off the pace against Chelsea in the FA Cup on Wednesday, crashing out after a 3-1 defeat at home.
