Erling Haaland could be in contention to return for Manchester City’s Premier League clash against Burnley on January 31.

The 23-year-old has missed City’s last nine fixtures, which included their win at the Club World Cup last month, due to a foot injury.

According to The Times, Haaland completed a full training session on the final day of the club’s warm-weather camp in Abu Dhabi and did not suffer any pain.

The report claims that City are ‘taking it steady’ with reintroducing Haaland and that their FA Cup fourth round tie against Tottenham on Friday could come too soon for their top scorer.

It’s understood that a potential return against Burnley at the end of the month, or City’s following Premier League fixture away to Brentford on February 5, is a more realistic target.

After being named the best men’s player for 2023 at the Globe Soccer Awards last week, Haaland said: ‘Manchester City is a fantastic club, I really enjoy being here.

‘I hope to be back really soon from injury, I’m getting bored of not playing.’

Speaking before City’s 3-2 win against Newcastle United on January 13, Guardiola said of Haaland’s injury: ‘A little bit of disturbing problems in his feet. It’s fine.

‘The doctors decided to stop for one week and maybe restart in Abu Dhabi.

‘Hopefully at the end of this month he’ll be ready. It [the injury] was a little bit more than we expected in the beginning. It’s a bone, it needs time.

‘Every injury you can do whatever you want but it’s a question of time. When you are injured at the end of November you miss a lot of games. It’s the toughest period.’
