F1 fans fume after Alpine unveil ugly 2024 car: ‘Absolute dumpster fire’

Formula One fans were left outraged with the Alpine teamafter they launched their 2024 car – only for it to have hardly any paintwork on it at all.

The build-up to a new F1 season is an exciting time, especially when one-by-one the teams unveil the new machinery they’ll be racing.

Most will feature striking liveries and so far 2024 has not disappointed, with McLaren, Haas, Williams and Stake showing off intriguing designs.

One recurring trait however, is there is much more exposed carbon fibre on the bodywork in order to save weight, something that is proving divisive but with the right artwork in get be pulled off well.

That has not been the case for Alpine however, with Wednesday’s unveiling of the A524 falling rather flat after it was revealed to have barely any paint.

While the car itself has been described as ‘aggressive’, with Alpine radically changing things up after a disappointing 2023, the nearly all-black, with a splash of blue and pink colour scheme, hasn’t gone down well with fans who shared their dismay on social media.

‘I thought Haas had overdone it with the lack of paint. Alpine have upped the stakes,’ tweeted @JJLozzer.

@jahin14 posted: ‘Imagine being the livery designer at Alpine. My guy’s making a s*** ton of money doing nothing.’

‘Amazing to me how Alpine manages to make both a wonderful livery for WEC [World Endurance Championship] and an absolute dumpster fire for F1,’ @farsejaire added.

@Aperta said: ‘Like genuinely, what are they paying the livery designers for? Just placing sponsors on the car? And the designers must be so annoyed they can’t even do anything with the car. Like “aight, see this little 10cm square here? You can do something there”.’

As per the last few years, Alpine will run a ‘pink’ livery at eight races this season due to a sponsorship agreement with BWT, and as such unveiled that as well at their launch.

Having teased a stunning pink camouflage scheme in the build-up, fans were furious to discover that the alternative livery was almost identical to the original with only a tad more pink.

@PLANETJUNL tweeted: ‘ALPINE YOU SCAMMERS WTF IS THIS WHERES THE PINK’

‘Was really disappointed they gave us pink spoiler pictures but the pink car has barely any pink. I don’t like the normal livery, it looks weird,’ @BakkerJoyce said.

‘Tbf this Alpine livery looks like it was made in full color, but they failed crash test twice, they had to reinforce the livery and then started stripping colors off, fact they teased pink camo livery and that color that is actually on the car is very weirdly placed adds up,’ @MarsenicStefan mused.

At the end of the day, it will only really matter whether or not the A524 can deliver on the track, with F1 testing underway at the end of February, ahead of the first race of the season in Bahrain on 2nd March.
