Cedric Soares is set to stay at Arsenal until the end of the season despite links with a post-deadline day move to Turkey.
Many fans will be forgiven for forgetting that Cedric is still at Arsenal three years after he became one of Mikel Arteta’s first signings for the club.
The right-back has made only two senior appearances this season – totaling just 65minutes of football.
Having fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates, he spent the second-half of last season on loan at Fulham and was expected to leave last summer but there was little interest in the defender.
A January exit was then touted, with Villarreal and a trio of clubs in the Turkish Super Lig interested in the 32-year-old’s services, with Arsenal content to let him go for little to nothing.
It seemed that Galatasaray would be his next club after they entered negotiations to buy him, only for them to end up signing Serge Aurier from Nottingham Forest instead.
There have been no further offers thus far, though there is still time for Besiktas and Trabzonspor to make a move, as while deadline day has already passed in England, the Turkish transfer window remains open until Friday February 9th.
It remains to be seen whether any of the aforementioned sides will approach the Portugal international when he’s a free agent, as could Benfica who have been tentatively linked with him in the past.
Cedric is unlikely to play much of a role in Arsenal’s title fight against Liverpool and Manchester City, with Ben White, Oleksandr Zinchenko and the returning Takehiro Tomiyasu ahead in the pecking order.
Furthermore, Jurrien Timber is also expected back in the next couple of months once he fully recovers from his ACL injury.
