Jose Mourinho has named the club he would ‘love’ to see win the Champions League this season as well as making his Premier League title predictions.

Both competitions are set to be fiercely fought over this season, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal separated by just two points in the Premier League title race.

As for the Champions League, City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been considered the favourites for a while, though the German giant’s chances have taken a huge hit after they lost the first leg of their last 16 tie against Lazio.

The Gunners’ status as frontrunners would have been unthinkable a few years ago but Mikel Arteta and his team have greatly impressed are favoured to beat Porto in their last 16 tie.

Mourinho doesn’t appear to be getting too carried away with their hype however as he made his end of season predictions on the FIVE podcast, saying: ‘Premier League… City or Liverpool, so I’m not making a mistake. But I think City.

‘Champions League… I would say City or Real Madrid. If somebody outside wins it that would be a great surprise for me.’

Though he hasn’t managed in the UCL since getting sacked by Manchester United in 2018, Mourinho still has plenty of interest in the competition due to several of his former clubs being in it, namely Real, Porto and Inter Milan.

He triumphed with the latter two in 2004 and 2010, and admitted that he would delighted to see Los Blancos win again.

‘I would love Real to win it again, for the club and for Carlo[Ancelotti],’ he added.

‘I wouldn’t be upset at all if City does it but it would be nice to have [someone else win it]. Bayern Munich, PSG maybe.

‘But looking at potential… City or Liverpool for the Prem and City or Real for the Champions.’
