Julian Nagelsmann says it is likely he will not be Germany manager after Euro 2024 and is hopeful of signing for a new club before the tournament begins.

This news will put the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United on high alert amid uncertainty of who will be in their dugouts next season.

Jurgen Klopp is leaving Anfield after nearly nine years, while there is speculation that new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning to replace Erik ten Hag.

Nagelsmann is on Liverpool’s shortlist though their priority is to hire club legend Xabi Alonso who is doing an outstanding job at Bayer Leverkusen, but is also wanted by Bayern Munich.

The 36-year-old has been on the Red Devils’ radar before, but Ratcliffe appears more interested in Gareth Southgate or Graham Potter.

Nevertheless, the Germany boss says he does not want to be out of a job for too long and is open to offers, recently saying: ‘There is a high probability that I will sign before the European Championships if I have an offer that I am satisfied with.

‘But right now I don’t have a piece of paper. It’s normal to want to sort out your future.

Next Liverpool manager odds:

Xabi Alonso – 4/6

Ruben Amorim – 4/1

Roberto De Zerbi – 6/1

Pep Lijinders – 8/1

Julian Nagelsman – 10/1

Thomas Tuchel – 12/1

Steven Gerrard – 20/1

I can’t decide that [my future], you first need someone to offer you a job (laughs). There’s currently no offer ready to be signed.

‘A year or half a year break after the Euros is out of the question for me – as long as an offer comes in. I learned to give myself a little calm and then decide.

‘In general, I’m a young coach, a young person who also needs a job. Then it’s about decision-making options. I don’t want to be a monarch, but I don’t want to be a puppet at the club either. My family is also involved in finding a solution.’

Nagelsmann has also been linked with making a shock return to Bayern just a year after he was controversially sacked by the Bundesliga giants and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

After a disappointing campaign, Tuchel will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, with Alonso and Antonio Conte among the frontrunners to replace him.

Nagelsmann was only hired as Die Mannschaft boss last September, replacing the sacked Hansi Flick, with his contract set to end after Euro 2024 which Germany are hosting.
