Trent Alexander-Arnold hopes to return for Liverpool before their trip to Manchester United on 7 April.

The right-back has not featured since suffering a knee ligament injury against Burnley in mid-February.

It was a recurrence of the same injury that saw the 25-year-old miss three games in January, managing to complete a full 90 minutes just twice since the turn of the year.

Alexander-Arnold remained sidelined as Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday, ending their hopes of a quadruple this season.

With his injury ensuring he was not selected for England duty, he has been stepping his return on the training pitch at Melwood with Jurgen Klopp believing he can be fit for the Premier League trip to Old Trafford next month.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Alexander-Arnold is hoping to return to action before then, viewing the game against Sheffield United three days earlier on 4 April as a realistic target.

The Reds have been ravaged by injuries in recent weeks with Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara still among the long-term absentees.

It was feared Diogo Jota could miss the rest of the season but he could also return after the international break along with Curtis Jones.

Alisson Becker meanwhile has not featured since the defeat to Arsenal at the start of February with his return date still unknown.

Ibrahima Konate has been nursing a muscle injury but has trained with the France squad this week.

Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo meanwhile picked up knocks against United on Sunday but both also trained with their respective national teams in recent days.

Darwin Nunez suffered a hamstring injury in the same game and was withdrawn from the Uruguay squad, remaining on Merseyside to recover.
