Erik ten Hag was left furious with one particular journalist after Manchester United lost at home to Arsenal, labelling their post-match question ‘pathetic’.

The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday to Mikel Arteta’s men to pile even more pressure on Ten Hag in what has been a miserable season.

United look set for their lowest finish in more than 30 years and Ten Hag is increasingly losing his patience with the media amid speculation over his future.

After United suffered a club record-extending 14th Premier League defeat of the season – the Dutchman was quizzed how big the gap to Arsenal would be if he had a fully fit squad – a question which saw Ten Hag provide an angry response.

‘That is pathetic,’ Ten Hag said. ‘We don’t have to answer this question in this moment. Because it isn’t.

‘We have these problems and the problems have caused us an effect in results. But I don’t know where we would be if we had the players on board.

‘If we had all of the players on board, we will get more points and have more consistency in the backline.’

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Viktor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia all missed the game against Arsenal due to injury.

Ten Hag has warned the likes of Fernandes and Rashford that they will not play in the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City unless they can prove their fitness.

‘If you want to go into a hard game like the cup final you need the game practice and they know that,’ Ten Hag added.

Meanwhile, United legend Wayne Rooney has sensationally claimed that some of the club’s players are not actually injured and are looking out for themselves.

‘You look at the injuries and some of those players could play, 100 percent,’ Rooney told Sky Sports. ‘You have a European Championships coming up and an FA Cup final coming up. It is easy for players to stay out for a little bit and then come back towards the European Championships.

‘I have seen it myself over the years. I just think the players who have been injured are not filling themselves with any credit at the minute.’
