Manchester United have announced Raphael Varane will leave the club at the end of the season in what is expected to be a summer of major upheaval at Old Trafford.

Varane joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 and will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of June.

One of the game’s most decorated defenders, the World Cup winner helped United win the Carabao Cup last season after forming a formidable partnership with Lisandro Martinez at the heart of defence.

He has also been hampered by a series of injury problems during his time at the club however and is currently fighting to return in time for United’s FA Cup final showdown with Manchester City on 25 May.

The 31-year-old has made 93 appearances in his three seasons in Manchester, starting 24 matches in all competitions this term.
