Manchester United are planning to keep Bruno Fernandes following interest from Bayern Munich, according to reports.

Fernandes still has two years remaining on his contract with United but admitted last month that he would reconsider his future after Portugal’s Euro 2024 campaign if the club were open to a sale.

According to The Independent, Fernandes is on Bayern’s shortlist and the German club believe a deal is a realistic target this summer.

The report claims that Thomas Tuchel, who has not categorically ruled out the prospect of staying on at Bayern for another season, is keen for the Bundesliga side to recruit a new creative midfielder.

However, The Athletic reports that United’s hierarchy have met with Fernandes and have made it clear that they want him to stay at Old Trafford.

The report claims that Fernandes and his team held discussions with United’s senior figures at their training ground last week where it was made clear that the club want to build a team around the 29-year-old.

It’s also reported that Fernandes wanted clarity over United’s direction under the the INEOS-led regime and there is now a ‘strong expectation’ that the Portugal international will remain at Old Trafford.

Speaking on Tuesday, Erik ten Hag was keen to stress the importance of having Fernandes at United.

‘It’s the same question as last week. So I answered. The same answer,’ Ten Hag said.

‘Now in all the years he was, he was a tremendously important player for Manchester United and creating the most chances across the Premier League. So many assists, so many goals.

‘It’s clear he’s a very important player for us.’

In an interview with DAZN Portugal last month, Fernandes sparked speculation over his future at Old Trafford.

‘I’m not thinking about other things at the moment,’ Fernandes said.

‘Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it? A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides.’
