Martin Odegaard has praised his teammates for rediscovering their lethal touch in front of goal as Arsenal continued their free-scoring start to the year to keep pace with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal have now won five on the spin after a commanding 5-0 away victory against Burnley on Saturday.

The Gunners have notched up 21 goals in that blistering run of form, a sharp contrast from their goalscoring woes before the winter break which saw Mikel Arteta’s side score just two in four games as they dropped vital points against Fulham and West Ham.

And Odegaard, who scored his first goal since early December in last weekend’s win, was glad to see the renewed confidence in front of goal.

‘I think that’s what we were missing a little bit in the last few weeks before the break – we created so much but we didn’t score the goals,’ the Norwegian said after the game.

‘But within the last few games, we’ve been brilliant in front of goal. We get so many people in the box and so many situations around the box. So yeah, it’s been brilliant.

‘Last game was a great performance and yeah we played really good again. We just have to keep going like this, there’s a long way to go and we can still improve a lot of things.

‘I think that’s the mindset. We just want to keep going and keep improving.’

The north London side will now turn their focus to the Champions League last 16 as they head to Porto on Wednesday for the first leg.

It will be the Gunners’ first appearance in the tournament’s knockout stages since the 2016/17 season but the 25-year-old is confident his side can manage to battle on two fronts both domestically and in Europe.

‘That’s what we want to do, we want to compete in every competition we play in,’ he added. ‘Of course Champions League is a massive one, so we are excited for it.

‘We just want to focus on ourselves each game, keep improving every game and we will see how it goes.

‘We are in a good moment now. We have to use that momentum, keep building on it and we will see.’
