Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says he would ‘never’ quit the club after warning supporters that the Blues are a ‘different project’ than the one Jose Mourinho inherited.

The Argentine is under severe pressure at Stamford Bridge following Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

A nervy win against Leeds United in the FA Cup followed, before a 2-2 draw with Brentford in the Premier League.

With the Blues 2-1 down against the Bees, some supporters in the away end booed Pochettino and sung for Mourinho to return for a third stint.

But Pochettino says he would never leave the club of his own accord, and says supporters must realise the Blues are not the same club that Mourinho had in either of his stints.

Asked whether he would ever consider quitting as manager, Pochettino replied: ‘No, no, no. Why? Never.’

‘Today is a different project. It’s a different Chelsea. If you are going to judge us analysing the situation comparing it with the past of Chelsea, for sure, no one is going to succeed. The fans are not going to love another coach any more [than me]. It’s a new project, and people need to understand.

‘I respect Jose. He’s my friend and he was amazing for this club. Circumstances are circumstances. We need to keep pushing, believing in us, and accept all the things that came from the fans. Of course, I respect the fans.

‘You need to ask the players. If the players believe that with another coach they’ll do better, I am the first to say: ‘Hey, they can go and talk with the owner and the sporting director.’
