Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has questioned Manchester United’s winning goal that sent them into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Erik ten Hag’s side booked their place in the next round thanks to an 89th minute winner from Casemiro at the City Ground, stooping to guide a header home from a free kick from Bruno Fernandes.

It survived a lengthy VAR check where Raphael Varane’s position was also checked, with the Frenchman appearing to block a Forest player as the ball was swung in.

It drew parallels with a key incident during Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea were Virgil van Dijk saw a second-half header ruled out.

After the Dutchman had planted a header home, it was chalked off with Wataru Endo judged to have interfered with play by blocking Levi Colwill who would have been marking van Dijk.

Casemiro’s goal stood however, much to the frustration of Gibbs-White who believed the goal should have been ruled out. In a now deleted post, the midfielder blasted officials by sharing screen shots of both incidents side-by-side after the match.

Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo did not dwell on the controversial moment post-match, eager to move on with his side’s focus now on Premier League survival.

‘I’m not sure about it. I didn’t clearly see the images,’ Nuno said.

‘Speaking to the players, they said there was a block in a possible offside. They checked it.

‘But we have had so many issues during this period with VAR and referees that let’s try to forget about it and move forward.

‘It is a frustration to lose this way, in the final minute of the game after all the effort we did. That is the main frustration and disappointment of not letting our fans enjoy today because they were so supportive and noisy. We have to thank them.

‘It is a joy to play here. We are going to play here again in two days’ time, so we have to move forward and go.’

United will host Liverpool in a huge quarter-final tie on the weekend of 16/17 March.
