Ronnie O’Sullivan booked his place in the final of the Masters after a commanding 6-2 victory over Shaun Murphy.

The 48-year-old looked like being taken to the wire when Murphy won the first frame after the mid-session interval with a faultless break of 131.

Stung into action, however, the Rocket reeled off four frames in succession, producing an outrageous display of potting to enthrall the Alexandra Palace crowd.

The World No.1 is now placed to become both the oldest and the youngest winner of a tournament that brings together the top 16 players in the world.

O’Sullivan accomplished the same feat by winning last month’s UK Championship but he insists he feels younger than the rivals he continues to dispatch with the minimum of fuss.

Afterwards he said: ‘At the start there were a few mistakes but I cleaned it up a little bit – and I need to do that these days, because I can’t pot as well as these guys but I can make breaks among the balls and make up for it that way.

‘I don’t feel that old. I feel young in my mind. I feel a lot younger round the table when I play these younger players.

‘They look old and their brains are quite slow. I still feel my brain is pretty quick round the snooker table, which is enough.

‘They need to get their acts together because I am going blind, have got a dodgy arm and they still can’t beat me.’

O’Sullivan will play either Mark Allen or Ali Carter in tomorrow’s first to 10 frames final where he will look to further cement his position as the current world No.1

Of his potential opponents, he added: ‘If I play Carter it’s gonna be a right nightmare. He wants to get in my face. But I can deal with him.

‘Who’s the other guy? Oh Allen. Allen’s good, he’s solid, he’s strong. Whoever it is it’s going to be tough.’
