Thierry Henry insists he has no inside knowledge on which club Kylian Mbappe will join this summer despite suggestions the striker would like to follow in the footsteps of his countryman at Arsenal.

The 25-year-old is out of contract with Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season and, despite having the option to extend his deal by a further year, he is expected to leave the club on a free transfer.

Long-time suitors Real Madrid are the clear favourites to secure his signature, though reports this week claimed Mbappe would be open to following the career path of his childhood hero Henry by moving to the Emirates.

Henry himself, though, seemed rather taken aback by the reports and says he has not spoken with his young compatriot about his future.

When the rumours were mentioned during CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage on Wednesday night, Henry replied: ‘What are you looking at me for?

‘I don’t know, really, I don’t know. I don’t have those insights.

‘I don’t [have a hunch], I’m going to wait and see where he’s going to go like everybody.’

Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher was in disbelief over the Mbappe-Arsenal reports, exclaiming ‘What?!’ before Googling the articles on his phone.

Despite Liverpool also being tentatively linked with a swoop for the Frenchman, Carragher feels his destination is already nailed on: ‘He’s going to Madrid isn’t he.’

Henry also alluded to Real Madrid being Mbappe’s likeliest destination earlier in the show, saying: ‘Where he is going to go, no-one knows, but everyone thinks it is going to be one place.’

Henry could actually manage Mbappe at this summer’s Olympics, with the forward keen to represent the host nation as one of three over-age players.

‘I’ve not spoken to him directly yet about the Olympics,’ France Under-23 coach Henry explained. ‘I’ve been calling players, which I’ll keep to myself obviously, but Kylian said on TV himself that he would like to play. Nobody would not want to have Kylian in their team.

‘But he also said it will depend on [his club for next season]. So I need to explain to people that the games are not on FIFA dates, so clubs can say no in terms of releasing the players.

‘It’s not in terms of does he want to, but can he? Will he have the approval of his team to come? The players from French teams, obviously [the Olympics] is in France. I would like to think they’ll release the players. The problem is teams abroad, who don’t have to send them. That’s going to be tricky.’
