Arsenal’s decision to buy Kai Havertz was a ‘mistake’ and the club are paying for it so far this season.

That’s according to William Gallas, who says the Gunners desperately need to sign a striker.

Arsenal have struggled for goals so far this term, which has undermined the side’s title challenge.

The Gunners are interested in Brentford ace Ivan Toney but the Bees will not listen to offers below £80m – which is a fee Arsenal are unwilling to pay.

Arteta opted to sign Havertz in a £60m deal last summer and though the German’s performances have improved in recent weeks, supporters remain on the fence over the midfielder.

Gallas, though, is convinced that Havertz’s signing was a mistake.

Arsenal need a striker but they needed one starting from the beginning of the season and a striker with a different profile,’ Gallas told the Gambling Zone.

‘Gabriel Jesus is very strong and can run and dribble in tight spaces and stretch defences and provide opportunities for wingers to cut inside. Sometimes you need a striker who is stronger and taller and can change the way the team plays, playing more direct with long balls. That’s the type of player Arsenal has to look for.

‌’We are in January and maybe they’re realising they need another striker. That’s why they should have signed a striker at the start of the season. They had the opportunity to buy a striker but they bought Kai Havertz. I still believe they made a mistake. How many goals is Havertz going to score? Not many.’
