Mikel Arteta has refused to confirm whether or not David Raya will still be at Arsenal next season.

The Spain international joined on a season-long loan last summer and he quickly usurped Aaron Ramsdale at the club’s No.1.

Raya is on course to win the Golden Glove award this season and the Gunners had been expected to make the 28-year-old’s move a permanent one at a cost of £30million.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s must-win game against Bournemouth, however, Arteta insisted a final decision has not yet been made on Raya’s long-term future.

He said: ‘Those conversations are for after the season, we will review where we are. Obviously we are really happy with David and everything he has brought to the club and the team. There is no question about that.

‘But all of those decisions have to be made between all of us at the club and we will see.’

Despite Arsenal’s outstanding defensive record, Raya has been guilty of several high-profile mistakes, including the error which gifted Tottenham a route back into last weekend’s north London derby.

Responding to that error after a game which Arsenal eventually won 3-2, Raya said: ‘I’ve learned from making mistakes. If you don’t make mistakes, you don’t learn. It’s part of football, everybody makes mistakes.

‘But the thing is, when the ‘keeper makes a mistake, is normally it is a goal and it’s more seen, more talked [about] compared to a striker missing a tap-in or whatever.

‘But it’s just part of football and you learn from that, that’s the most important thing. You just learn from the mistakes.’

Arsenal, meanwhile are facing a potential conundrum this summer Raya was selected in Spain’s provisional squad for the Olympics in Paris.

According to Spanish publication Relevo, Spain youth boss Santi Denia has identified the goalkeeper position as an area of weakness and would like to use one of his over-age slots there.

Were Spain to reach the final again, Raya would be playing that match on August 6 and only be afforded an 11-day break before the Premier League kicks off on August 17.
