Xavi has announced he will step down as Barcelona head coach at the end of the season.
The legendary midfielder who guided the Catalan giants to La Liga success last season, made his shock announcement following Barcelona’s 5-3 defeat at home to Villarreal.
‘I want to announce that on June 30 I will no longer continue as the coach at Barça,’ Xavi said in a short statement. ‘I think the situation needs to change course, and as a culer, I cannot allow the current situation.’
After last season’s success, Barcelona have struggled to replicate that form and are 10 points off the top of the Spanish top flight, led by arch-rivals Real Madrid.
